NBA Final / Proof Wristbands are NOT A FAD
Did you get a chance to watch the NBA finals? That was edge-of-your seat excitement wasn’t it? My favorite part about watching sports events today is seeing all the different spectators and players wearing different silicone wristbands.
Ok, ok, yes we are located in Texas and it could be said that we may have wanted Dallas to win the NBA finals, but this is not a sports column and we are not here to talk about sports although it may sound that way from the start of this story.
I just want to talk about the tremendous popularity of wristbands and share evidence with you and the world that silicone bracelets are no longer in the “fad” stage. We have said it before and we will say it again, “Wristbands are everywhere and here to stay for awhile.”
Once a person is made consciously aware of anything, he/she will start to notice it wherever the object appears. In this case, wristbands are the objects and I see them everywhere and wonder if we made them. The picture below shows several of the Miami Heat team members reaching for and holding the NBA Finals Championship trophy.
Alonzo Mourning’s yellow and green silicone wristbands are probably the most noticeable in this picture, but if you look carefully, you will see five players are wearing one or more wristbands. If there was one big enough for Shaq, maybe he would have worn one too.

All kidding aside, we really just wanted to share a very current photo of a group of people who are held quite highly; who are in the public eye; who wear wristbands for different causes or reminders. Contrary to the misinformed belief of a handful of skeptics, silicone wristbands are not a fad and their popularity is bursting at the seams of the negative suit made by the pessimistic tailors.
How will your next order of custom silicone wristbands be used? Are you on a team who will use them for an important sporting event? What about using wristbands as great souvenirs, an entry ticket, or a simple every day inspirational item? Of course, many of our sports organization customers have used their bands for many successful fundraisers as well, and continually reorder for new fundraisers too.
A marketing company in Dallas almost bought 500,000 custom silicone wristbands from us to give away in the controversial “Victory Parade” that we heard was planned for the Mavericks without the team’s knowledge. It’s a good thing for them that they didn’t make the purchase, but even with the short notice we were given; we already had four manufactures ready to meet the demand. Are wristbands a fad? We cannot answer any more clearly, “NO WAY!” Keep bringing your ideas to us and we’ll keep making them for you.

50 Million Silicone Wristband Uses
Custom Silicone Wristbands have literally become a phenomenon in the fundraising and promotional products industry. We are amazed each time we stop to take a look at our customers customized wristband messages. Today, a young lady made a wristband that says it all. The front of her band says, “This Bracelet..” The other side says, “MAKES ME THINK.”
We do not know what it is she is thinking about, but we do know that wristbands do make you think. Personalized silicone wristbands are the new, space age “String around your finger.” Having a physical reminder on your person is the best way to remember anything. What’s more, when a wristband is used as a promotional item or a fundraising item with a message, people always read the message, then put the band on their wrist!
We always recommend that our commercial customers not only put their company name on a band, but to be sure to use the bands for a cause. What better way can you think of to have your business name in front of a customer, than to wear it? There is no better way, but having a reason to wear one is what keeps the message alive.
Here is a simple explanation as to why it works so well.
The incredible and complex human brain is actually very easy to train to memorize anything when it has multiple associations to whatever it is we want to remember or have others remember. When we have a visual picture, physical item and bodily interaction with just about anything, we will remember better. When a person first reads your message, he/she views the wristband and then puts it on their body. Their subconscious mind now knows what the band means; it is not just a wristband; it has meaning. Their brain will automatically repeat the meaning of the band each time they see it, feel it, play with it or take it off and put it on!
As Vice President of the most amazing custom silicone wristband manufacturer in the United States, I get tickled when someone asks, “I can have this, really?” when I hand them my silicone bracelet business card. It is actually a silicone wristband.
Each time I introduce myself and let people know what it is I do for a living, their eyes open wide and they tell me they had no idea they could make their own. This is usually followed up with, “I am going to get some for my sons birthday!” or, “My child’s school needs their own band!” The Franklin Covey Corporation had us make a beautiful white wristband with a message in gold that says, “Lift Yourself by Lifting Others.” This is utterly true too, because you cannot be down when you are helping others. They use their wristbands as part of a training course they put on. Imagine this; America has 300 million, or near 300 million people. If only 3% of Americans have 5 original ideas for uses of wristbands, we would actually be able to create over 50 million wristband uses!
It has been said time and time again that the uses for silicone bracelets are unlimited and this is why they are no longer considered a “fad.” As you watch television, go to dinner, drive in your car, go to church, attend a sporting event or just go anywhere, you will see wristbands. We invite you to open your mind to the many possibilities and uses you can come up with for wristbands and enjoy your own creativity when you customize your very own silicone wristband with a message.
